How it works

Three steps, and two of them are ours.

1

Send it or bring it

Start online with your plate number, or walk in with your renewal notice. Either works.

2

We process it

Same day, on the spot. If there's a hold or a smog issue we'll tell you before you pay.

3

Sticker in hand

Pick it up at the counter or we can mail it. You're registered.

Before you come in

What to bring.

If you have the renewal notice, that plus payment is usually all it takes. No notice is fine too.

See what it costs →

  • Your renewal notice, or just the license plate number
  • A photo ID
  • Current proof of insurance
  • Smog certificate if one is due — we can tell you in advance
  • Payment for the DMV fees plus our service fee
Common questions

Questions we get every day.

My tags expired months ago. Can you still help?
Yes. Late registration is one of the most common things we handle. The DMV adds penalties the longer it sits, so the sooner you come in the less it costs, but there is no point where we stop being able to help.
Do I need a smog check first?
Most vehicles need one every other year, and newer cars are often exempt. Give us the plate number and we'll tell you whether one is due before you spend money on it.
I never got a renewal notice.
Not a problem. We can pull up the registration with your plate number and your ID. Notices go missing constantly, usually because the address on file is old, and we can fix that at the same time.
There's a hold on my registration.
Unpaid parking tickets, toll violations and insurance lapses all cause holds. We can see what the hold is when we look up the plate and tell you exactly what has to clear before the renewal can go through.
Can I do the whole thing online?
You can start it online and pay online. The sticker still has to be handed to you or mailed, so there's one pickup, or we'll post it to the address on file.
Good to know

What to know before you renew

You do not need the renewal notice. A plate number and photo ID are enough for us to pull the record.

What we check first is whether anything blocks the transaction: unpaid citations, toll violations, a reported insurance lapse, or a smog check that has come due. Any of those stop a Registration Renewal, and we would rather say so before taking payment than after.

Expired Registration is a large part of what we do. California penalties grow the longer a registration sits lapsed, so the cost rises with time, but there is no point at which we stop being able to help. Whether your tags expired last week or two years ago, bring the plate number in.

Smog catches people out most often. Most vehicles need a check every other year, newer cars are generally exempt for their first several years, and the requirement follows the vehicle rather than you. Give us the plate and we will tell you whether one is due before you pay for a test you did not need.

If you would rather not come in at all, start the renewal online. It takes about two minutes and we text you when the sticker is ready, rather than leaving you to wonder whether it went through.

Plate number, a couple of details, and payment. We'll text you when it's ready.
